Here is a breakdown of some common moving costs

  • Truck Rentals – if you want to do it yourself, you can sometimes rent a truck for as little as $20 a day depending on size, availability and location. Some places you can rent a truck would be U-Haul , Home Depot , Budget truck , Penske truck , etc.

  • Professional movers – save yourself time and the backache and hire movers to do the heavy lifting. For a local move, this can range from a couple hundred dollars to a couple thousand depending on the size of the home.

  • Temporary Storage – If you need to store your stuff for a few days, there are options for temporary storage. Whether it is a short term storage unit or a POD, this will come at an additional cost.

  • Moving Supplies – boxes, tape, bubble wrap, packing tape, stretch tape, moving blankets, etc. These supplies can get pricey, however if you plan ahead you can purchase things when on sale or at a discount. Check your local stores/online communities (i.e. Facebook Marketplace) to see if anyone is giving away boxes, this will save potentially hundreds of dollars!
