Fireplace Maintenance and Tips

temp-post-image

There’s nothing better than cozying up near a nice fire.

Here are a few great fireplace safety, operation, and maintenance tips:

  • Don’t use a fireplace for more than four or five hours at a time.

  • Keep the doors open to allow air to be drawn up to cool the chimney,

but keep the screen closed to prevent sparks from jumping onto the carpeting.

  • Never leave a fire unattended

  • Make sure the damper is operational and completely open before lighting a fire.

  • Keep all combustibles a safe distance away from the hearth

  • Only burn dry firewood or CSIA-accepted manufactured logs in a fireplace.

Never burn pressure-treated or painted wood.

  • Keep a nonflammable rug in front of the fireplace so that sparks won't melt or

    damage your carpeting/flooring
