Exhaust fans should be installed in rooms in your home where moisture or odor occur such as bathrooms and laundry rooms. While use in keeping these spaces dry and smelling fresh they can pose a serious fire hazard if they are not properly maintained.

Benefits of Exhaust Fans

  1. Eliminates odors

  • A main reason for having/using an exhaust fan in the bathroom is for odor control.

  1. Humidity Control

  • Exhaust fans can reduce the humidity in the bathroom. Excessive moisture can be quite damaging to bathroom walls specifically causing paint/wall paper to peel and in extreme cases, warp.

  1. Improve comfort

  • Exhaust fans help maintain circulation increasing overall indoor comfort.

Clean at least once a year

  • Turn off power to the fan at the circuit box

  • Remove grate, wash with warm water and dish soap

  • Remove dust from the fan, using a vacuum or can of compressed air can be helpful

  • Dry and put grate back and turn circuit breaker back on
